The pumping of Russian gas through the Turkish Stream gas pipeline will be suspended  for maintenance in the summer of 2023. Previously, Turkish Stream was halted in the summer of 2022.

The gas transmission operators of Hungary and Bulgaria informed about the suspension of the pumping of Russian gas through the Turkish Stream due to planned maintenance work. The maintenance will take place on June 5-12, 2023.

In November 2022, Russian and Turkish Presidents Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed to improve the gas pipeline protection measures.

Commenting on the agreements, director of the Institute for Political Studies Sergey Markov, warned that the safety of the gas pipeline was in jeopardy.

"I would say that the probability of the pipeline undermining is 90%,”

- he assumed.

Markov further noted that protecting the Turkish Stream would require a lot of effort due to its length.
