The previous evening, telephone conversations between the presidents of Türkiye and Israel took place. The relevant information was confirmed in the offices of the heads of state. The central topic of the conversation between Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Isaac Herzog was the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. In particular, the parties talked about the latest developments in Jerusalem and on the Temple Mount.
Presidents' statements
The Turkish leader stressed that at this sensitive time, when Ramadan and Passover coincide, no further escalation to Gaza and Lebanon should be allowed.
For his part, Herzog assured his interlocutor that Israel was committed to maintaining the status quo in sacred places. He drew attention to the fact that Iran and its satellites, including Hamas, sought to undermine stability in the region. According to him, a number of Arabic-language media are spreading false information, including fake videos, which are aimed at incitement leading to terrorism. In this regard, Herzog noted the need for comprehensive cooperation in the fight against terror.
Escalation of the situation
Recently, tensions around the Palestinian-Israeli conflict have intensified due to terrorist attacks in Israel, rocket attacks carried out by Palestinian radicals on Israeli territory, and Israeli retaliatory strikes against Hamas facilities, as well as due to the situation on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, where numerous clashes between Israeli police and Palestinians have taken place.
