Spain is increasing its Russian gas purchases. From January to March, LNG supplies increased by 127% compared to last year's figures for the same period.
Since the beginning of the year, Spain has purchased LNG from Russia equivalent to 17,297 GWh. According to the Spanish energy company Enagas, Russia has become one of the three main gas suppliers to the country after Algeria and the USA.
Russian gas supplies to Spain have shown growth for several years in a row: in 2022, supplies exceeded the level of 2021 by 45%, then the Russian Federation came fourth among gas exporters to Spain.
A long-term gas contract was signed between Russia and Spain in 2018. Despite the geopolitical situation, Spain does not intend to abandon it.
