Today, on March 5, residents of Azerbaijan celebrate Od Chershenbesi, or Fire Tuesday. This is the second Tuesday in a series of Tuesdays before Novruz.
On Fire Tuesday, people light high fires and jump over them to cleanse themselves and prepare for the arrival of spring and the new year - Novruz.
People congratulate each other on the holiday by saying “Od Chershenbeniz Mubarak” and “Od Chershenbeniz Mubarak Olsun.”
Earlier, on February 27, Azerbaijan celebrated Su Chershenbesi - Water Tuesday. Ahead is Tuesday of the Wind Yel Chershenbe (March 12) and Tuesday of the Earth Torpag Chershenbesi (March 19). And Novruz will come on March 20.
