Donald Trump becomes Republican presidential nominee

Less than 48 hours after a gunman shot at Donald Trump was formally nominated by the Republican Party as a presidential nominee

Trump selected J.D. Vance, a Republican U.S. Senator from Ohio, as his vice president

Vance, who once called himself an anti-Trump Republican, has since become a fervent supporter of the former president. Vance was formally confirmed as the nominee on Monday afternoon.

Trump, who was struck on the ear in the recent attack, has been the presumptive nominee for months, having easily clinched a majority of convention delegates earlier in the year - brushing aside rivals like South Carolina governor Nikki Haley and Florida governor Ron DeSantis.

However, he didn't officially become the party's standard-bearer until Monday's roll call, where delegates voted for him.
