Eleven officers have been shot by two snipers, leaving four officers dead and two in surgery, according to the Dallas police chief, KDFW reported. A civilian was also wounded in the shooting that broke out during peaceful protests in downtown Dallas.
Both snipers are now in custody, following a police chase down eastbound Interstate-35. This after a DPD officer saw one of the two throw a camouflaged bag into the back of a black Mercedes, before the vehicle sped off.
In a press conference earlier in the evening, Dallas Police Chief David O. Brown added that three of the officers are reported to be in critical condition. Chief Brown also said that the suspects threatened to plant bombs in the downtown Dallas area. He added that one suspect had been cornered, as the ATF and FBI searched for explosives.
The incident happened during the protests over the police shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota in which two African-American men died.
