36 parties will be able to take part in the general elections in Türkiye, the SEC of the country reports. The voting starts at 8:00 local time on May 14 and ends on at 17:00 the same day.
Türkiye has approved a list of political parties that will be able to participate in the May elections, follows from a statement by the country's Supreme Electoral Council. In total, the list includes 36 parties.
According to the resolution, voting is scheduled for May 14. It will last 9 hours – from 08:00 to 17:00 local time. After all polling stations are closed, the counting of votes will begin. At the same time, the media will publish the data of the processed ballots online.
On election day, the people of Türkiye will elect both a new president and parliament. If all the candidates for the post of head of state fail to overcome the 50% threshold, the 2nd round will be held on May 28.
Initially, general elections in Türkiye were to be held on June 18, but yesterday, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan signed a decree according to which the elections will be held almost a month earlier. The Turkish leader explained that the postponement of the elections to May 14 is due to "seasonal conditions."
