The fourth meeting of the Caspian Expert Club, timed to the 300th anniversary of the Astrakhan province, was held in Astrakhan yesterday. The experts met to discuss historical research and media projects within the framework of the 'Caspian Dialogue'.

The expert opinion was represented by historians and political scientists from Russia and Kazakhstan, the meting was attended by the leaders of the national cultural societies of the Astrakhan region and students of Astrakhan universities - future historians, political scientists, international journalists.

The discussion began with the agenda, which was outlined by the head of the Center for International Public Policy Studies 'Caspian-Eurasia' and the organizer of the Caspian Expert Club, Andrei Syzranov. "The Caspian region is unique as a special historical and geographical area of ​​millennial interethnic and intercultural interactions. The tradition of a dialogue of civilizations and cultures in the Caspian region is the basis for stable international relations in the present and the future. The geopolitical importance of the region follows precisely from the blending of cultures at the junction of civilizations, international trade, ideas," he stressed.

By the jubilee of the Astrakhan province, it is necessary to develop joint media projects of the mass media of the Caspian countries. One of such projects will be the Third Caspian Media Forum in September 2017.

Kazakhstan political scientist, head of the Public Foundation 'World of Eurasia' Eduard Poletayev expressed the opinion that the expert community of the Caspian states and the regional mass media play a particularly important role in constructing the image of the Caspian region as a region of friendship and cooperation. He also recalled the forthcoming 5th summit of the heads of the Caspian states. "The issue on the legal status of the Caspian Sea should be decided at the summit," the expert sstressed.

Head of the Department of Advertising and Public Relations of Astrakhan State University, Ph.D. in Political Sciences Ksenia Tyurenkova, spoke about her research in the field of studying the image of the Caspian region in the media. She noted that a significant place in world news about the Caspian is occupied by military issues.

The representative of the all-Russian public organization 'All-Russian Azerbaijan Congress' Gabil Javadov spoke about the long-term and mutually beneficial contacts of the Astrakhan region and Azerbaijan and added that work is now underway to prepare a new study of local lore on this topic.
