The bill prohibiting abortion came into force on February 9 in Abkhazia. It was approved by the Parliament in late December.
The Deputy of the People's Assembly of Parliament, Said Kharaziya, was one of the initiators. According to him, "abortion is an artificial reduction of the already small population of Abkhazia".
The republic's chief obstetrician-gynecologist, Rita Trapsh, said that 700 abortions have been performed in Abkhazia in 2015 and only 15 due to medical reasons, Yuga.ru reports.
