More than 70 wildfires scorched 187,000 hectares in the Far East over the past day, with the most difficult situation seen in the Amur Region, the Federal Forest Fire Center reported on its website on Sunday, citing reports of regional forestry dispatch services.
At 00:00 Moscow time on April 29, 22 wildfires covering about 156,000 hectares, including 37,000 hectares in the Khingan Nature Reserve, were active in the Amur Region. About 37 blazes scorched 6,400 hectares in the Primorsky Region, and 12 wildfires burned about 1,100 hectares in the Khabarovsk Region, as well as 22,600 hectares were ablaze in hard-to-reach and distant areas of the total forest area: expenses for extinguishing this fire were reported to exceed the probable damage. In the Jewish Autonomous Region 570 hectares were covered by fires.
A total of 86 blazes covering 170,700 hectares of forests were reported in Russia (without regard to blazes in hard-to-reach areas and other categories of lands - TASS). In addition, forest fires raged through the Trans-Baikal, Omsk and Bashkortostan Regions.
"According to regional forestry dispatch services, forest fire-fighting crews and involved people extinguished 57 forest fires covering 18,500 hectares over the past day, on April 28, 2018, in Russia," TASS informed citing the report.
More than 2,800 people and 495 vehicles, including 25 aircraft, were involved in the fire-fighting efforts.
