It is important that the events taking place today don't affect the nature of Russian-Turkish relations, Deputy Chairman of the Russian National Commission for UNESCO, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation, Vice President of the Russian Council on International Affairs Alexander Dzasokhov stated at the third plenary session 'The strategic interests and prospects of cooperation between Russia and Turkey in solving regional problems' at the international conference 'Russia and Turkey: strengthening of multifaceted cooperation'.
"Today, Turkey and Russia are members of various international organizations. If we talk about the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), our countries were at the origins of it, it is still very young. I hope to find new ways to develop and give the BSEC new capabilities to address the problems of the region.
The range of opinions at the time of creation of this organization was very broad. Our joint initiative was a feature of that time, because the generation of politicians has changed in Turkey, the country was forced to plunge into the Arab-Israeli conflict, and the echo of the collapse of the USSR affected the Caucasus greatly. That is why the participants of first meetings of the BSEC expressed understandable caution, and decided to deal only with the economy. I propose to give expert advice to the governments of our countries, so that political issues are also present in this organization," Alexander Dzasokhov suggested.
