Almost 800 injured in Iran earthquake

The number of injured in the magnitude 6.3 earthquake in western Iran the previous night has risen to 780, the Iranian media reported.

According to the Tasnim news agency, the earthquake damaged about 300 residential houses in Iran

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani "has ordered officials to do whatever is necessary to provide help for the victims," state TV reported.

According to officials in nearby Iraqi Kurdistan, one person died and 43 others were injured in the quake.

The earthquake struck western Iran on November 25 near its border with Iraq at a depth of 10km, damaging buildings and sending fearful residents running into the streets. It hit 20km away from the town of Sarpol-e Zahab in Iran’s Kermanshah province, which was the epicenter of an earthquake last year that killed more than 600 people and where some still remain homeless.
