Analyst: Turkey will stop fighting the PKK after the election

The operation by the Turkish Armed Forces against Kurdish terrorists won’t last long and it will be continued up to the early parliamentary elections. Turkish political analysts Nihat Dagdelen and Burak Ozpek expressed this belief in an interview with Vestnik Kavkaza, commenting on the results of the monthly struggle against Kurdish separatists in the east of the country and in the south-west of Syria.

According to Dagdelen, the military operation against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) hasn't provided any results: "In fact, we have entered a period when we have no hopes that the sound of gunfire will be stopped, or that weapons will be laid down," he said.

The expert believes that the internal peace between the parties has become very fragile. It seems nothing can help establish peace and quiet there.

According to him, the authorities have started fighting the Kurds again beca they wanted to receive the majority of votes of the nationalist-minded people. But all the subsequent events have shown that these intentions of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) have failed and everything went the other way round.

"Opinion polls show that after the resumption of military operations against the PKK, the AKP lost votes, and even support for those parts of society that were ardent opponents of the PKK. Today they support a settlement process," he added.

According to him, Turkish society is criticizing the government more harshly because of Erdogan’s policy.

"These processes will continue until the election. I think that, after the election, things will change. We can assume that after the election Erdogan won’t have as much power as before. Maybe after this the fratricidal war will be stopped," the analyst posited.
