Anatoly Shirokov: Russians share pain of the Azerbaijani people

Today a member of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Construction, a representative of the executive body of the Magadan region, Anatoly Shirokov, visited the studio of Vestnik Kavkaza. In a live transmission of the Tribune program he spoke about the problems of subsurface resources management, economic issues and the tourism potential of the northern region, as well as expressing his attitude towards the Caucasus.

First of all, the senator expressed his condolences to the relatives and friends of those who were killed and remain missing after the fire at one of the platforms in the Guneshli oilfield. ‘‘We have experienced the pain and joy of the Caucasian peoples from the earliest times. Now I would like to express our most sincere condolences to the people of Azerbaijan in connection with the accident at the oilfield in the Caspian Sea. The friendship between our peoples is so great that we not only rejoice, but also grieve for each other. I'm sure that today the overwhelming majority of Russians share the pain of the Azerbaijani people,’’ Anatoly Shirokov said.

According to him, the senator wants to travel around the Caucasus.  ‘‘I traveled to the Caucasian country of Armenia only once. It is one of the trips that left the most vivid impressions. I remember about it with pleasure. The Caucasus is a dream for me. I really want to travel both to Dagestan and Georgia. I've heard a lot about the streets of Tbilisi, where you can walk and feel the cultural atmosphere of the city. I hope that my dream will come true with the help of specific trips to the region,’’ the member of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and Nation-building said.

Baku is one of the key cities in the Caucasus. Anatoly Shirokov would like to travel there very much. "Baku is called the 'Caspian Odessa', because there is a great mix of different cultures and peoples that created the unique atmosphere of Baku, which the city of Odessa also has. In this sense, it is based on the thesis that the Caucasus is a dream for me. And Baku is one part of this dream,’’ the senator said.

Also, the Caucasus is associated with specific people for him. "At the same time, the Caucasus is the people whom I have met many times in my life. I had friendly relationships when I was a student, and I have now living in Moscow and Magadan. Those who live in the Caucasus also remained my friends. The Caucasus represents the best qualities of their characters. They are honest, generous, open people, who are truly able to be friends," Anatoly Shirokov concluded.
