Anatoly Vyborny: Russian youth must be protected from extremism

The concept of public security in the Russian Federation, approved by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, has referred to terrorism and extremism as among the main sources of threats. Militants of Islamic State are recruiting citizens of CIS countries, including Russia. According to unofficial data, between 800 and 1500 people from Russia are fighting on the side of ISIS. Recently a connection was prevented to the terrorist organization of a group of 13 citizens of Azerbaijan and Russia, among whom was a student of Moscow State University, Varvara Karaulova.

How to deal with the spread of extremist propaganda? Do we need to toughen anti-terrorism legislation? What steps at the national and community levels should be taken to counter the influence of extremist organizations, especially for youth? Such questions are increasingly being voiced not only by politicians.

As the member of the State Duma Committee for Security and Anti-Corruption Anatoly Vyborniy said in an interview to a correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza, today in Russia quite a powerful and a good legal framework has been formed, which allows preventative work to be conducted effectively and to prevent, detect and bring to justice those involved in extremist or terrorist activities.
