Andrei Baklanov: Erdogan's apology is a forced measure

Russian President Vladimir Putin has recently received a message from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan where the letter apologized for the downed Russian military aircraft and expressed sympathy and condolences to the family of the deceased Russian pilot and assured that Turkey will do its best to restore traditional friendly relations with Russia, and jointly respond to crisis events in the region to fight against terrorism.

Advisor to the deputy chairman of the Federation Council, Deputy Chairman of the Association of Russian diplomats Andrei Baklanov commented on the meaning of these steps in an interview with Vestnik Kavkaza.

"Firstly, this is Turkey's step in the right direction, but it is the first step. It may reveal the intention in some way, but it is too early to announce about the readiness of Turkey to execute the complex issues," Deputy chairman of the Federation Council Advisor said.

The diplomat noted that this action was not an act of re-education of the Turkish leadership. Erdogan was forced to take this step due to difficult financial Turkey's economic position.

"The country is to blame that the situation led to the reduction of interaction volumes in the fields of trade, economy and tourism. The pressure on Erdogan in the country forced him to take this step. In principle, it is his nature and willingness to cooperate. That is the resson why he immediately apologized in some hours after the event, rather than waiting for a few months,'' Andrey Baklanov concluded.
