Araghchi criticizes US visa waiver program

The new US bill limiting the free entry to the United States for citizens of certain countries puts Iran in line with the states that pose a terrorist threat, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said.

If the bill will be passed, all dual nationals from Iran, Iraq, Syria and Sudan and anyone else who has travelled to those countries in the past five years, will be exclude from the US visa waiver program, which allows citizens of 38 countries, EU states, Australia, Japan and South Korea, to travel to the United States without having to obtain a visa.
According to the Deputy Foreign Minister, the bill violates the agreement on the Iranian nuclear program.

This means in practical terms that any European, Australian or Japanese citizen who has recently travelled to one of these four destinations will be ineligible to enter the United States without a visa, they would have to retain permission to travel to the United States without a visa, Araghchi stressed.

In addition, he believes that this document has caused great damage to the Iranian tourism industry.
