Armenia extends ban on import of Turkey goods

The Armenian government made a decision at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting to extend for another 6 months the ban on the import of Turkish goods to the country, Armenian Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan said.

The minister recalled that the Armenian Government adopted a decision on banning the import of Turkish goods to Armenia on October 20, 2020, which established a six-month ban on the import of final consumer goods of Turkish origin, Sputnik Armenia reported.

"A six-month period has been set on the basis of the relevant provision of the EEU, according to which EEU member states may unilaterally apply non-tariff regulation measures in trade with third countries for a maximum period of 6 months. The legal regulation prohibiting the import of goods of Turkish origin came into force on December 31, 2020, so the 6-month period expires on July 1," Kerobyan said.
