Border guards from the Armenian National Security Service have taken positions along the delimited section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in the Tavush region, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in an address to the nation.
"Starting from today, the border guard troops of the Armenian National Security Service have now assumed responsibility for the protection of a 1.9 km stretch near Berkaber village and a 4.9 km stretch encompassing Voskepar and Baganis villages in the Tavush region," Nikol Pashinyan said.
According to the PM, protection of the 5.8 km demarcated section of the Kirants settlement of the state border will be carried out by a transitional scheme.
Earlier, it was reported that Baku and Yerevan are withdrawing their troops from the Tavush region. Starting from May 24, border guards are entrusted with protecting these areas.
In mid-May, the Armenian Foreign Ministry announced the protocol had been signed with Azerbaijan, according to which the border delimitation process would take place in accordance with the General Staff of the USSR Armed Forces of 1976.
