Armenia's investigators don’t dispute 2008 election results in charge against Kocharyan

Head of the Armenian Special Investigation Service Sasun Khachatryan said that in the charge recently brought against the country's ex-president Robert Kocharyan the agency doesn’t dispute the results of the 2008 presidential election.

"I officially state to all those who keep saying that the charge includes a clause calling the results of the election to question – there is nothing like that in our decision," ARKA cited Khachatryan as saying.

The document says that those citizens who have found the results of the election rigged took to the streets to restore their rights.

Khachatryan added that it is out of question – this is not a political persecution, and the process is going on absolutely in accordance with the law.

A Yerevan district court late on July 27 ruled that the Special Investigative Service could hold Kocharyan for two months in pre-trial detention pending investigation. Kocharyan is charged with toppling constitutional order in collusion with other persons, and the agency has applied to court for a detention warrant.
