The Armenian government has approved the new Electoral Code yesterday. According to the head of the Armenian government staff, David Harutiunyan, the focus of the key discussions should be transferred to the political field and for that reason discussions are proposed to be held at the National Assembly.
"Thus, the final version of the document will be prepared through active political debates until June 1," News.am cited Harutiunyan as saying.
According to the new Electoral Code, the parliamentary elections will be organized only according to party lists. The winner of the elections will receive 54% of all the seats (if the result is between 50% and 54%, he gets additional seats), but he cannot have more than 2/3 of the seats.
In addition, a number of seats in the parliament are given to national minorities.
