Armenian Transport Ministry reports on advance of North-South highway construction

Armenian construction workers are working with their section of the North-South highway at a faster pace, the first deputy minister of transport, communications and information technologies of Armenia Gagik Grigoryan said.

Having mastered 24 billion drams ($50 million) instead of the planned 17.3 billion ($36 million), road workers practically completed work on the first tranche (Yerevan - Artashat, Yerevan - Ashtarak). The works are actively carried out on the second tranche (Ashtarak-Talin), excavations and trial laying of concrete are underway on the third tranche (Talin-Gyumri), News.am reports.

The North-South highway will cut down the time in driving between the Iranian and Georgian borders via Armenia, and reduce the respective current distance by 61 km to 495 km. The total construction cost is approximately $960 million, and the main donor of this road construction project is the Asian Development Bank.
