Despite popular protests in Yerevan and other cities of the republic, the Armenian authorities have raised electricity tariffs today. According to the decision of the Commission on regulation for public services, both the day and the night rates are increased by 6.93 drams per 1 kW / h, and they now make up 48.78 drams and 38.78 drams respectively.
The Armenian civil society opposed the decision of the authorities on June 19, the protests continue to this day. On June 27 President Serzh Sargsyan promised residents of the republic, that the government "will take over the burden of tariff increases" until the international audit to be held for the electricity distribution company ‘Electric Networks of Armenia’.
Currently, the initiators of perpetual meetings ‘No robbery!’ were replaced by another civil movement ‘Arise, Armenia!’, the participants of which hold rallies in Yerevan.
