President Serzh Sarksyan's ruling Republican Party appeared to have taken a clear lead in elections in Armenia on Sunday, an exit poll showed after having processed data from 64% of polling stations..
An exit poll put the Republican Party on 49.7% of votes cast. The opposition Tsarukyan's Alliance led by wealthy businessman Gagik Tsarukyan trailed on 27.84%.
The exit poll showed that an opposition bloc Yelk (Way out) got 7.02%, while the government-loyal Dashnaktsutyun Party got 6.68%, a minimum needed for the party to enter parliament, TASS reported.
In order to enter the parliament, Armenian parties need to get 5% of votes while parties alliances – 7% of votes.
