Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer said in a newspaper interview that Russia’s Gazprom had to fill its gas storage capacity at the Haidach plant or make way for others to use it.
“We are also looking clearly and decisively at Gazprom’s huge storage facility in Haidach. If this is not filled, we are considering measures so that it has to be filled,” he told the Kleine Zeitung in an interview posted on Thursday.
Asked it that meant nationalising the facility, he said “no, there are other ways to access the storage. It’s ‘use it or lose it’. If you use it, everything is okay, if you don’t use it, other companies can access it. Haidach is strategically important for Germany, but also for western states in Austria.”
