Today Azerbaijan celebrates the Day of the Armed Forces. It was on this day 104 years ago, June 26, 1918, that the first regular army unit, the Separate Azerbaijani Corps, was created by the decision of the government of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. This decision actually laid the legal basis for the creation of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.
The Azerbaijani army was established after gaining independence. On October 9, 1991, the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan adopted a law on the creation of the National Army. So, until 1998, the Day of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan was celebrated on October 9.
By the decree of President Heydar Aliyev dated May 22, 1998, June 26 was declared the Day of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan and a non-working day. The day of the creation of the Separate Azerbaijani Corps in the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was chosen as a new date.
Since then, military parades have been regularly held in the country on June 26. On the occasion of the holiday, marches and demonstration performances of military bands have already started in different parts of Baku. In the evening, from 19:00 to 21:00, the orchestras will also perform in six designated places - Heydar Aliyev Park, Flag Square in the Azneft circle, Museum Center, Officers Park, Koroğlu Park and Fountain Square.
The army of Azerbaijan, which includes the Land, Air Force and Naval Forces, is called upon to protect the independence and territorial integrity of the republic, as well as the freedom of the people of Azerbaijan. It is the strongest army in the South Caucasus.
The first vice-president of the country Mehriban Aliyeva has already congratulated the Azerbaijani army. She expressed her gratitude to the republic's brave officers and soldiers for their courage, steadfastness and restoration of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
