Today Azerbaijan is celebrating Independence Day: on October 18th 1991, during a session of the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan, the Constitutional Act 'On the State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan' was adopted unanimously.
Shortly before that, on August 30th 1991, at an extraordinary session of the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan, the Declaration on State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan was approved. And on December 29th 1991, during a national referendum, the people of Azerbaijan answered the question 'Are you for the Constitutional Act on the State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan?' affirmatively.
