 Azerbaijani and Baku Championships in Gymnastics open in Baku

The Championship of Azerbaijan and Baku in Gymnastics started today in Baku.

They competitions will be held for two days in the auxiliary hall of the National Gymnastics Arena.

The representatives of the club Ojag Sport, the Baku Gymnastics School, the Republican Olympic Sports Lyceum and Sumgayit, namely, 36 boys and 29 girls in several age categories will participate in the competitions. In addition the professional performances of the participants of the upcoming Olympic Games Rio 2016, Oleg Stepko and Petro Pahnyuka, and bronze medalist of the World Cup FIG series Challenge, Marina Nekrasova, Yulia Inshina and Maria Smirnova are planned.

The first sets of medals were given today. Most of them went to the men in the all-around competitions.

In the youngest age category  Mansum Safarov (71.7 points), Rafig Orujov (71.467 points) and Ramin Damirov (71.233 points) became the best. In the category ‘children’ Aydin Alizadeh (56.566 points), Anar Hasanov (56.134 points) and Rasul Ahmadzade (55.801 points) became the best. Among the juniors medals were given to Murad Agarzaev (79.4 points), Sergei Onbysh (75.95 points) and Javidan Babayev (73.85 points).

Today the competitions among the representatives of the two age categories of women's all-around took place. Nazanin Teymurova (38.83 points), Fatima Huseynli (37 points) and Malahat Babayev (35.399 points) became the first among the girls born in 2007.  Alia Rustamov (38.967 points), Milana Aliyeva (37.3 points) and Esmeralda Hasanova (37.234 points)  among the girls born in 2008 stood on the podium.

However the main event of the day became the performance of the men’s all-round competitions’ participants. The first three places were taken by Petro Pahnyuk (84.4 points), Teymur Bayramov (71.3 points) and Oleg Stepko (5.25 points).

The men's all-around competitions among the junior and novice categories, and women's among the younger categories, kids, juniors and adults are scheduled for tomorrow.
