The deputies of the lower house of the Kazakh parliament unanimously elected Baktykozha Izmukhambetov as the new Speaker during the first plenary meeting.
"107 votes were for the candidacy of Izmukhambetov," RIA Novosti cited the Chairman of the Counting Committee of the Majilis, Askar Bazarbayev, as saying.
Earlier this post was held by Kabibulla Dzhakupov.
Baktykozha Izmukhambetov is the head of the Atyrau Region. Previously, he served as the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic.
