Baku 2015 European Games: first victories

Today Baku has hosted the first competition day of the Baku 2015 European Games. Athletes won 13 sets of medals.

The tournament of wrestlers in the Baku 2015 European Games has the status of the championship of the continent. The athletes of the Greco-Roman style are the first to compete in Baku. Wrestlers in the categories of 59, 71, 80 and 98 kg  performed on Saturday. 

Azerbaijani wrestler Elman Mukhtarov and Roman Amoyan, representative of Armenia, met in the match for third place in the Greco-Roman wrestling in the weight category up to 59 kg. In the second period Roman Amoyan was injured during the fight and he sought to perform with an injury to the head. With with a score of 9: 1 Elmar Mukhtarov won a bronze medal at the Baku 2015 European Games. Russian athlete Stepan Maranyan won gold medal in this category after defeating Soltan Daurova from Belarus in the final fight.

The representative of Azerbaijan, Rasul Chunaev, came first in the weight category up to 71 kg. He beat Balint Korpasi from Hungary with a score of 3: 1. The bronze medal in this category was won by Frank Steybler from Germany.  With a score of 3: 1 he beat Mindy Tsulukidze from Georgia, as well as Dominik Etlingera from Croatia, who beat Svilen Kostadinov from Bulgaria 4:0.

In the next weight category Evgeny Saleev won a gold medal, Azerbaijan's Rafig Huseynov won silver, and bronze medals were won by Daniel Alexandrov from Bulgaria and Viktor Sosnovsky from Belarus.

In the weight category up to 98 kg Russian wrestler Islam Magomedov was the winner in the final match after defeating Dmitry Timchenko from Ukraine. The bronze medal was won by Frenchman Meloninu Numonvi and Turku Chenki Ildemu.
