Azerbaijan and Belarus, having closely exqmined international developments, will support the foreign policy of each other. This is a result of the official visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Minsk embodied in the form of a joint declaration with President Alexander Lukashenko. "The parties will contribute to the deepening of cooperation and coordination of efforts to provide mutual support in the field of foreign policy," the document reads.
Similarly, Baku and Minsk called for a strengthening of the UN's role in determining the international agenda, as the organization is a versatile tool for compliance with equality among all members of the international community, as well as a guarantor of stability and security in the world. According to the text of the Declaration, Ilham Aliyev and Alexander Lukashenko confirmed the same or similar positions on many international issues and stressed the commitment of both countries to the principles of international law and the need not only for greater bilateral cooperation but also in the formats of various international organizations, especially in the context of security.
Also, Azerbaijan and Belarus will deepen their engagement in the fight against international terrorism and organized crime, human trafficking and drug trafficking, illegal migration and extremism.
Commenting on the talks with Alexander Lukashenko, Aliyev noted that Belarus is a reliable partner of Azerbaijan. "During the years of active cooperation we have experienced each other for strength and reliability in different situations, we never let each other down. We trust each other. At this level of relationship, words have the same weight as signatures on documents. The time now is challenging, the economic crisis has imposed a political crisis in many countries, a military-political one. We live in a period of confrontation that demands new approaches to the solutions of many international issues," the President of Azerbaijan explained the importance of the new agreements with Minsk.
Alexander Lukashenko spoke in a similar vein. "The world has gone mad – you can see what's going on. We have to live in this completely unpredictable world, or rather survive. So we have to stick together to face the challenges and threats that exist in the world today," RIA News quotes him as saying.
