The Azerbaijani-Iranian agreement on the resumption of oil swap is to start operating in the coming days after a five-year-break due to sanctions against Tehran, Iranian Oil Deputy Rukneddin Javadi said.
"After a five-year-break Iran intends to resume oil swap with Azerbaijan, importing oil to the Caspian ports and delivering the equivalent amount of oil on behalf of the Azerbaijani partners to the Gulf countries. The Agreement is to enter into force in the coming days. The two countries will also cooperate in the Caspian Sea, in particular, in the areas of research and development,’’ Trend cites him as saying.
Recall that this agreement was signed on February 23rd in the course President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Iran. The president of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) Rovnag Abdullayev and Rukneddin Javadi put their signatures under this document.
During the visit Ilham Aliyev met with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani. President of Azerbaijan noted that the two countries had good prospects for cooperation in the oil and gas sector, which may be confirmed, in particular, by active Iranian involvement in investment projects of this field on the territory of Azerbaijan.
"The Caspian Sea is our common heritage. The Caspian Sea should continue to be the sea of cooperation, safety and peace. Excellent work is being carried out in the field of energy and we excellent prospects. The cooperation in this area is not limited to the Iranian-Azerbaijani cooperation. Neighboring countries may also join the project. In this case it will turn into a beautiful transnational, regional project,’’ the Azerbaijani leader underlined.
