Baku hosts 2nd Nasimi Festival of Poetry, Art and Spirituality

The grandiose Nasimi Festival of Poetry, Art and Spirituality, dedicated to the 650th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet, Imadeddin Nasimi, started today in Baku and Shamakhi. The festival was organized with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Culture of the AR. The event will last until October 1.

The 2nd festival like the previous one was organized at the initiative of the Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Leyla Aliyeva. it aims to study and promote the work of Imadeddin Nasimi. In just five days, about 30 events will be held.

As the Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan Abulfas Garayev emphasized, the festival reflects the continuity of Azerbaijani generations. “The organization of the 600th anniversary of Nasimi at the UNESCO level in 1973 at the initiative of the great leader Heydar Aliyev was a significant event in the history of Azerbaijani culture. After so many years, his granddaughter, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Leyla Aliyeva, holds the Nasimi Festival. This means that our people remember their traditions,” he said.

Two books were presented in the framework of the festival: the monograph of the Azerbaijani scholar Orkhan Mirgasymov living in Great Britain and the work of the famous German scholar, Michael Hess.
