Baku is hosting the 5th International Humanitarian Forum created under the patronage of the Presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan, Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev.
The two-day forum will be attended by prominent politicians, representatives of science, culture and art, heads of leading media outlets from 75 countries, as well as representatives of 9 international organizations. 13 Nobel Prize winners, former presidents and heads of governments of several countries will also attend the forum. The Russian delegation includes well-known politicians, representatives of science and culture.
The opening ceremony in the Heydar Aliyev Center was attended by the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.
Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a message to the forum participants.
"The forum has received global recognition in a relatively short time," the Russian Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets read out Putin's message.
"Baku has brought together distinguished guests, representatives of science and intellectuals. You are to exchange valuable experience, discuss prospects in the spheres of culture, science and environment," the Russian president pointed out in his message stressing that he is confident that "the discussions will be fruitful."
The forum organizers noted that the event will look into " humanitarian problems, prospects and challenges of the 21st century with the realities of globalization."
Two plenary sessions and six round tables will be held within its framework. Discussions will be held on the following topics: “Different models of multiculturalism: from theory to humanitarian practice”, “The importance of preserving human capital in terms of mass movement of people as a basis for sustainable development”, “Transformation of journalism in the information age and its role in ensuring inter-civilizational dialogue", "Sustainable development and ecological civilization”, “Molecular biology, biophysics, biotechnology and training issues in modern medicine: innovative and ethical issues”, “The Convergence of technologies and the forecast for the future: main challenges of the 21st century.
The first Russian-Azerbaijani forum on humanitarian cooperation was held in Baku in January 2010. Then, on the initiative of the presidents of the two countries, it was decided to make the forum a platform for discussing contemporary global humanitarian problems. In autumn 2011, the capital of Azerbaijan hosted the first such meeting, later the forums were held in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
