Belousov accuses West of inciting hostility in South Caucasus

CSTO

The actions of the West are causing complications in the situation in the South Caucasus, this statement was made by Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov at the CSTO summit, which is taking place in Almaty today.

"Individual countries of the North Atlantic Alliance are seeking to strengthen their positions in the Caucasus, thereby gaining access to the resources of the Caspian Sea and direct access to Central Asia",

Andrey Belousov said.

The minister drew attention to the West’s unceremonious imposition of its services as a mediator in the process of normalizing relations, within the framework of which Baku and Yerevan must sign a peace treaty only on Western platforms and exclusively under its dictation.

In addition to this, the Defense Minister drew attention to the desire of NATO and the EU for confrontation with Moscow leads to an escalation of tension in the regions associated with the CSTO.

Let us remind you that the day before, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, made a statement, indicating that the West was taking steps to increase hostility in the South Caucasus region.

"From their point of view, the countries of the region should not establish ties with each other, but should be at enmity. Neighbours should not be engaged in the economy, trade, infrastructure, but only be in conflict with each other",

Maria Zakharova said.

The diplomat explained that in this way the West solves its problems, one of which is to squeeze the Russian Federation out of the region.
