Bodies of Azerbaijani pilots returned to their homeland

Bodies of deceased Azerbaijani pilots Major Tabriz Musazade, Major Urfa Velizade and Senior Lieutenant Baqir Ismailov were transferred to the homeland today.

It is known that they were pilots of the Mi-24 helicopter which was shot down on April 2 in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.

Relatives of the victims said that the funeral will take place on April 11, haqqin.az reports.

Recall, as Vestnik Kavkaza reported, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has facilitated the handover of the bodies of those killed in action following the recent escalation of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Recall, on the night of April 2 all frontier positions of Azerbaijan were exposed to heavy fire from large-caliber weapons, mortars, grenade launchers and guns. In addition, Azerbaijani settlements near the front line, densely populated by civilians, were shelled.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20% of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
