British Azerbaijanis address authorities in connection with attack on embassy in London

The Coordination Council of Azerbaijanis in the UK appealed to the Parliament and Home Secretary Priti Patel after the attack on the embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in London by members of a radical religious group.

The authors of the appeal emphasize that Azerbaijan, as a tolerant country, opposes any kind of radicalism. In this regard, the Azerbaijani community strongly condemns the attack on the Azerbaijani embassy, which is located on one of the central streets of London.

The Coordination Council members stated that this act of vandalism grossly violates the norms of international law, as well as the Vienna Convention, and this is an aggression against the state attributes and the territory of Azerbaijan. "We strongly condemn this. This will only strengthen the spirit of the joint struggle of our people against radical religious ideology", the publication says.

In addition to this, the authors of the appeal emphasize that this provocation revealed a security gap in ensuring the diplomatic mission's security. The host country must take security measures in accordance with international legal obligations. "The attack came at a time of further development of Azerbaijan's ties with the EU in the oil and gas sector to ensure supplies to South-Eastern Europe and reach a decisive stage in peace negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan under the auspices of the EU. Probably, the aim is to nullify these opportunities, spoil the developing relations between the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan and present the UK as an unstable country", the statement said.

The Coordination Council, on behalf of the Azerbaijani diaspora, demanded that members of the radical group be expelled from the UK to restore political and diplomatic stability.
