Brussels and Ankara agree on plan to combat migration crisis

The leaders of the EU and Turkey have agreed on an action plan to stop the migrant flow to Europe at a summit in Brussels, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said.

Aid will be discussed with Turkey in the coming days, and the process of facilitating a visa regime will be accelerated, he said.

"Allow me to express cautious optimism, because we took important decisions that will help secure the Union's external borders," European Council President Donald Tusk said.

"We have agreed to strengthen the mandate of Frontex. In the coming months the agency will be deployed in a more operational entity. Our goal is to give Frontex the right to return illegal migrants on its own initiative," TASS cited Tusk as saying.
