Burjanadze: Saakashvili's governorship is a slap to Georgians

The leader of the Georgian party Democratic Movement, Nino Burjanadze, in the program "Vesti on Saturday with Sergei Brilev" stated that the decision of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko to appoint the ex-Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili as governor of the Odessa Region was a slap to the whole Georgian nation.

"When the former president of a sovereign state agrees to be governor of even a very important and respected region of a respected state, it is an insult to his own people. I, personally, and many people in Georgia, perceived these actions of Poroshenko simply as a slap in the face to the Government of Georgia and the Georgian people, because it cannot be called friendship when Georgia is looking for him, accusing him, and you are appointing such a person to high positions and presenting him as a model of democracy," TASS quoted her as saying.

Burjanadze also warned the Kiev authorities that they are repeating the mistakes of Georgia with Saakashvili. "Presenting Saakashvili as a main adviser is a big mistake. After all, his main goal is not to extinguish the fire, which is now, unfortunately, in Ukraine, but on contrary, to add fuel to the fire, so it would become even worse with Russia," she explained.
