CFO of Siemens Healthineers speaks on why company not to leave Russia

The German manufacturer of medical equipment Siemens Healthineers continues its activities in Russia in accordance with previous agreements and is not going to leave the Russian Federation, Jochen Schmitz, the company's financial director, said in an interview with Die Welt.

"There are no legal grounds for non-fulfilment of contracts. From an ethical point of view, I would consider such a step (leaving the Russian Federation - ed.) dubious. Should we refuse to treat children in Russia for cancer?" he asked, reminding them that they were not to blame for the situation in Ukraine.

Schmitz noted that the work of Siemens Healthineers in Russia does not violate EU sanctions, because they do not apply to medical services and products for the civilian population. At the same time, the financial director specified, some of the restrictions are directed against military hospitals, so the company does not interact with them.
