CHP leader to be investigated in Turkey

The Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the remarks of main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) chair, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who argued the sort of presidential system proposed by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) could not be realized without “spilling blood.”

The investigation will be led by the Bureau on Investigating Parliamentary Crimes, under Article 214 of the Turkish Criminal Code on “inciting to commit a crime”, the Hurriyet Daily News reports.

"One speaks, Turkey keeps quiet. One speaks, a judge decides accordingly. One speaks, list of deputies is prepared accordingly. One speaks, someone is imprisoned. You cannot actualize such a presidential system without shedding blood,” Kılıçdaroğlu said in a speech to the general assembly of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) in Ankara on May 11.
