The Canadian government has changed the name of Turkey in official documents so that it is written in accordance with Turkish phonetic norms, according to the Canadian Foreign Ministry.
It is specified that this was done "out of respect for the desire of Turkey".
Now, in the Canadian government's official documents the country's name will be written like Türkiye ("Turks") instead of Turkey.
