Cavusoglu: Turkey forced to start military operation in Syria

Turkey was forced to start military operations in Syria, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said.

He noted that presently, terrorists of the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) and the People’s Protection Units (YPG) control 25% of Syria’s territory.

According to the foreign minister, Turkey will liberate Syria’s Afrin city from terrorists and return these lands to the Syrian people.

Cavusoglu also noted that Operation Olive Branch is not directed against Syrian Kurds. "There are Kurds fighting against PYD and YPG in the Free Syrian Army," the minister stressed.

On January 20, the Turkish Armed Forces, together with the Free Syrian Army, launched the Operation Olive Branch in Afrin, Syria.
