The Azerbaijan Chess Federation (ACF) proposed to create a special structure to strengthen cooperation and ties of Turkic-speaking countries in the field of chess.
The proposal was made during the meeting of the International Chess Federation's General Assembly held on the last day of the 45th World Chess Olympiad in Budapest.
Addressing the meeting, ACF Secretary General Ilaha Gadimova emphasized the importance of creating a joint association of Turkic-speaking countries and informed about the main goals of the future structure. The proposal put to vote at the FIDE General Assembly was adopted unanimously, Trend reported citing TurkicWorld.
The Chess Association of Turkic-speaking countries was established. The first members of the association became Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan.
At the end of the meeting, FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich met with the heads of chess federations of the member states of the Chess Association of Turkic-speaking Countries. The charter of the association will be approved shortly. The leadership of the structure will be elected for two years and will be on a rotational basis.
