Georgia will issue 5 lari collector coins dedicated to the country's football team's entry into the European Championship. This is stated on the website of the National Bank of the Republic.
"As you know, in March, the National Bank of Georgia decided to release a collector's coin dedicated to Euro 2024 to celebrate the historic achievement of our team . We worked with the Football Federation on the design of the coins, which will be gold and silver",
the Acting President of the Central Bank, Natia Turnava, said.
She also wished success to the national team at the Euro, which started in Germany this Friday.
What will the coins look like?
On one side of the coin will be the Georgian national team's logo along with a horseman engaging in battle with a dragon, and on the other side will be the design of the match jersey. The coin will also have the inscription "I am Georgia".
The production of collectible coins is carried out by the Lithuanian Mint. The release should be completed by the end of the year.
Entering the Euro
The Georgian national team made it to the European Championship for the first time in its history, beating the national teams of Luxembourg and Greece in the qualifying playoffs. In the first round of qualification, Georgian football players beat Luxembourg (2:0), and the team prevailed over Greece in a penalty shootout in the second match.
What matches will Georgia have?
The Georgian team's opponents in Group F will be Türkiye, the Czech Republic and Portugal. Willy Sagnol's team will begin the tournament with a match against Türkiye on June 18. It will start at 19:00 (Moscow time).
