Council of Europe ready to help settling Azerbaijan-Armenia border clashes

Reports of escalating armed hostilities around the Armenian-Azerbaijani border are very alarming, Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić said.

“Recent direct contacts between the highest authorities of both countries were promising and should be continued. The Council of Europe is ready to assist in reconciliation efforts which contribute to achieving a peaceful settlement,” reads the statement.

On September 12, 2022, starting at late night, the units of the armed forces of Armenia held large-scale provocations in the directions of Dashkasan, Kalbajar and Lachin of Azerbaijan-Armenia state border. Necessary measures were taken to suppress the firing points of the Armenian Armed Forces and to prevent the expansion of the scale of hostilities.
