Daesh threatens Russia

Daesh called on its group members to carry out jihad in Russia in a nine-minute YouTube video on Sunday.

"Listen Putin, we will come to Russia and will kill you at your homes ... Oh Brothers, carry out jihad and kill and fight them," Reuters cited the statement as saying.

It was not immediately possible to independently verify the video but the link to the footage was published on a Telegram messaging account used by the militant group.

Director of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) Alexander Bortnikov said that Russian intelligence services now keep track of more than 220 potential suicide bombers.

Russian special services in cooperation with their Kazakh colleagues have curbed the work of a criminal group that planned to carry out terrorist attacks according to the Paris scenario in large Russian cities.

A military observer of the TASS news agency, retired Colonel Viktor Litovkin, speaking with a correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza, stressed that terrorist groups' threats against Russia are not new. "Moscow is closely following the actions of Daesh. Russia regularly suppress terrorist attacks, as we know from the Federal Security Service's reports. Of course, Moscow is ready to address these threats and will continue its struggle against Daesh on the Syrian territory and in other countries," he explained, adding that the Russian Federation will assist states struggling with this terrorist organization.

The expert drew attention to the fact that the published video of threats means nothing. "Daesh made a lot of such videos. And it is not necessary that it will be followed by a terrorist attack. This is just an attempt to intimidate the population of our country," he noted.

The president of the International Association of Veterans of the Alpha Anti-Terrorism Unit, Sergey Goncharov, in turn, said that it is difficult to objectivity say why the Daesh members published a video now, because Russia has been the only force which really struggles against gangs in Syria for a long time.

"The United States, its allies, as well as the EU are reluctant to fight Daesh fully. Turkey has had a separate position yet. Therefore, I hope that Ankara will change its position regarding Daesh after a meeting between the presidents of Russia and Turkey on August 8. I think it will accept our scheme to fight against terrorism in the Middle East. This is the first thing. And secondly, we are all well aware that Daesh is not happy with all the achievements in Syria. Terrorists understand that they are losing their positions, therefore, Russia is the enemy number one for them," the expert noted.

At the same time, Goncharov stressed that we should not underestimate the threat from Daesh. "Their threats against our country, our president are quite serious and real. They have both financial and human resources which are able to carry out those tragedies like in Nice and other countries," he stated.

The expert noted that this is the work for the security services, which have enough resources to prevent terrorist attacks and possible assault on Putin. "At the moment we do not have such an influx of migrants or refugees like Europe has, our security services are ready for any development of events. We are monitoring the situation and are able to prevent unwanted people from entering our territory," Sergey Goncharov concluded.
