Prime Minister of Turkey Ahmet Davutoglu has been re-elected as chairman of the ruling Justice and Development Party.
At today’s congress 1353 delegates out of 1360 voted for him. The other seven ballots were declared invalid by the counting commission, APA reports.
Thus, Davutoglu retained his party post, despite the unsuccessful outcome of the elections for the AKP on June 7th. According to those results, it failed to achieve an absolute majority in parliament for the first time since 2002. Now he will lead the party during the repeat elections, which are to take place on November 1st.
