Day of Astana celebrated today in Kazakhstan

 

Kazakhstan celebrates the national holiday of the Day of Capital City of Astana today.


In 1997, the capital of Kazakhstan was moved from Almaty to Akmola, which was later renamed to Astana.The corresponding decision was made by the Kazakh Supreme Council on July 6th, the same day is President Nursultan Nazarbayev's birthday, RIA Novosti reports.


A number of festive activities are being held in the city these days. For example, the festival visitors could enjoy holiday pies, cakes and other sweet treats. And young guests and residents of the city plunged into the exciting world of fairy tales by artists from Spain, Bulgaria, Estonia, Romania, Tatarstan, Tajikistan and Serbia at the festival of puppet theatre.


The celebrations will be accompanied with fireworks and folk festivals on the squares and streets of the capital.
