Today, in Russia, on the eve of Election Day, the so-called Day of Silence is in operation.
According to legislation, any campaigning is forbidden on this day, including rallies and speeches of candidates, campaigning in the media.
On the Day of Silence, only campaign material already posted previously can remain in place, but under the condition that they are located no closer than 50 meters from a polling station. The ban on campaigning the day before the election was introduced so that voters could finally decide on their choice in a relaxed atmosphere, Interfax reports.
Voting in all regions of Russia starts on Sunday, September 13, at 8:00 am according to local time and will last until 20:00.
As noted by the Russian Central Electoral Commission, tomorrow in 83 regions of the country more than 10 thousand elections at various levels will be held, covering about 60 million voters. Only in North Ossetia and Kabardino-Balkaria are direct elections and referendums not being held this year.
As a result of tomorrow's vote, a total of more than 90,000 mandates will be allocated and more than 1300 elected positions at the regional and municipal levels will be replaced. In total, about 207,000 people submitted their candidacy for election, 190,000 of whom have been registered . "This never happened before," Vedomosti quoted CEC chairman Vladimir Churov as saying.
